Yes, if you are in the Westbrook Maine area you can drop your tapes off at our facility Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Our address is 26 Thomas Dr. Westbrook, Me 04092.
We take every precaution to ensure that your original tape (the master) is kept safe through the transfer process. Nothing is destroyed or damaged in the transfer/copy process. Obviously there are challenges with older tapes but we will notify you if it impeded the transfer process.
Yes, we can do that but we charge by the video tape and not the DVD so there is no cost savings to do so. We also recommend that DVD’s are recorded at the fastest speed possible for the best quality. Like a video tape, the more you try to squeeze onto it, the lower the quality.

We try to turn around the projects quickly although the holiday season tends to fill up quickly. Generally we ask for a 1 week turnover depending upon how many tapes you have. Some transfers can happen on the same day or within 24 hours.
Video and audio tape systems were designed to store your home movies using magnetic particles to reproduce the images and sounds that bring those treasured moments to life. Over time, the magnetic information will eventually breakdown and begin sounding dull and the image can lose it’s luster. The video will often begin to display tape drop outs and snowy images that will continue to increase until the video and sound is gone forever. In addition, old video tape can stick together and harden resulting in tremendous damage to the tape. One of the remedies to this is an expensive baking process where the video tapes are literally cooked in a confection oven for a set time. Even then, there is no guarantee it will be recoverable. Other factors like temperature and humidity also cause the quality of your home movies to deteriorate over time even while stored safely away.
